PRACTICAL NURSING PROGRAM This program is designed to give the student knowledge and skills on practical nursing concepts and an opportunity to apply this knowledge in the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health for clients. Students will participate in assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. The program will assist students to develop communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Classroom study covers basic nursing concepts and subjects related to patient care, including medical-surgical nursing, administration of medications, geriatrics, pediatrics, mothers and newborn care, and pharmacology. Clinical experiences are coordinated with classroom activity. These are conducted in long-term and short-term facilities, rehabilitation units, and community health organizations where students provide nursing care to mental health, surgical, maternal, and geriatric patients.
This program includes the NCLEX review. Upon successful completion of the program, a Certificate of Completion will be awarded to the student. Then the student will be qualified to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).
GENERAL COURSES:
Human Anatomy and Physiology I
The student will understand the basic overview of biological systems and their functions including cells and tissues, the skeletal system, the muscular system, the nervous system, and the endocrine system. The student prepares will be able to recognize diseases and understand how these diseases will be treated and how the individual’s body systems will be brought back to their normal functions through diagnosis, intervention, and treatment. Laboratory portions of the course include physiological experiments and anatomical studies using microscopes, organ models, preserved specimens, and a dissectible Human Anatomical Model. A Certificate of Completion will be given to students who pass the course.
Human Anatomy and Physiology II
The course is the second of two courses involving a systematic study of the cardiovascular, lymphatic, immune, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems. The student prepares to recognize diseases in individuals and understand how these diseases will be treated and how the individual’s body systems will be brought back to their normal functions through diagnosis, intervention, and treatment. Laboratory portions of the course include physiological experiments and anatomical studies using microscopes, organ models, preserved specimens, and a dissectible Human Anatomical Model. A Certificate of Completion will be given to students who pass the course.
Introduction to Psychology
This program is designed to provide the student with an introductory study of human and animal behavior, as well as the biological and mental processes that underlie behavior. The student will be introduced to research methods and findings, basic theories and principles, and applications of psychological concepts. The course will help the student understand psychological behavior and illnesses that he/she will encounter and help him/her understand how to care for individuals who have mental health issues and concerns. A Certificate of Completion will be given to students who pass the course.
English Composition I
This course is designed to develop the student’s reading, writing, critical thinking, and communication skills. The student will read critically and analytically with the aim of understanding the relationship between content, structure, strategy, techniques, and central purpose. It emphasizes the use of strategies for developing and refining topics on a variety of public and private issues; writing clear, coherent multi-paragraph essays that support a precise thesis using a variety of rhetorical methods, and practicing editing and proofreading techniques necessary to produce clear, error-free sentences in standard was written English. A Certificate of Completion will be given to students who pass the course.
Nursing Math
In this course, the student will learn the principles of applying math concepts to the calculations of safe and accurate dosages of drugs and solutions with algebraic equations. He / She will be proficient in computing drug dosages for adults and children as well as dosages in all forms of drug administration. With this knowledge, the student will be prepared to study medication administration and pharmacology. A Certificate of Completion will be given to students who pass the course.
